fløyen

today was a pretty sunny day – believe it or not. we went on an IKEA excursion with Patrick – because that’s what cool kids do – after which Anna and I decided to undertake a HIKE in the mountains. okay, fine. not much of a hike, more like a little excursion with the fløibanen to the top of a mountain and back, with a tad bit of walking in-between. on our way there, we met some crazy norwegians; by the time we got back into town, we realised that all norwegians are crazy. they go jogging in the mountains, they flash past you with their mountain bikes and almost run you over, fast enough to give you a heart attack.
these guys are obviously sexy.

around Fløyen, there were a lot of lakes.
this place really reminded us of a lake close to Flisa.

we saw a duck. it was cute and lonely.

lake number 2 was so much better than lake number 1 – but there were no ducks there. buy us some?

a bear tried to strangle Anna with its huge wooden paws.

I obviously had to show off my climbing-down-without-falling-into-the-water skills.

good, eh?

lake number 3, lake number 4

we went to a random hut that was closed and checked out rusty nails and wooden boards and a spider making its web for ages.

I was three years old when this was etched in the wood

the view was lovely…

and so was the sunshine.

it tends to make  up for the shitty, rainy days..

Vega

Ikea is the dream of every student. It’s affordable and makes everyone’s room look like a page from a catalogue (almost). I went on an IKEA trip two days ago and came back with her:

my baby plant. isn’t she (yes, it’s a girl) beautiful? It’s a lovely ficus and I am already in love with it, so I spent a whole day trying to give it a name. Someone suggested a greek sounding name, which I liked, but in the end I picked Vega, partly because that’s the 5th brightest star in the sky. It turns out that it is also the name of a place in Norway (as well as the name of a character from Street Fighter, as Rudi pointed out) so I guess that’s a sign.

Elverum-Karlstad-Stockholm

Last weekend, Uno, Eirik, Hanne and I went on a random roadtrip to Stockholm to see the Smashing Pumpkins.

We left from Elverum in the afternoon on friday, accompanied by our friend, Santa Claus.

Dwarf

for some reason I only ever have pictures of Eirik driving..

When we got to Karlstad, Uno got really excited. He had to show his excitement by putting a random bag handle around his head. That’s what reaaally cool people do.

Santa checks up on our car once in a while

This one is for Anna…

The next day (Saturday) we went to a recordstore. It was in a basement and had graffiti all over the place on the way downstairs. Continue reading

Fjord trip

this was two or so weeks ago.. before Søvassli..Vilma, Ruta, Philipp, Vilma’s friend (I always forget her name) and I drove to a place close to Orkanger, by the coast.

on our way there, it was raining

quiet after the storm

after two hours of driving, we got there. we threw ourselves outside of the car and I stood and smelled the sea breeze and ran through grass patches towards the shore, a small beach with flat, smooth, small rocks. The sun was so white and blinding, the light so strange and cold.

converse are my favorite hiking shoes…

…for urban hiking, that is.
of course, when we were told we would be hiking this weekend, I didn’t take anyone too seriously. “walking in the mountains, huuuhuu, okay, sure”, were my last words before I got onto the bus on friday afternoon, happily throwing my backpack+sleeping bag in the luggage trunk.
We got stuck in a bit of a traffic jam (what the..? traffic in Norway? yes, it does exist, apparently) and arrived at the center/hostel around 5:30PM. we hung around, ran like maniacs to pick out rooms+roomates, played KUBB (if you haven’t played it, you haven’t experienced Norway to the fullest) and had dinner, after which we headed down to the beach (more like, the sandy shore of the lake… but yes, technically it’s a beach).
On our way there we saw a dead squirrel.
It was sad.

writing in sand is my favorite hobby

we were lucky, because it was COLD (some people actually swam in the lake,… we just pulled up our pants and experience the ‘warm’ water only up to our knees) but the sky was almost clear.

believe it or not, it’s 9PM here

Søvassli sunset

we had a big pretty campfire to warm up our toes after playing KUBB again. Wolfgang taught us some drinking songs and we just sort of hung out before heading back up to the hostel.
