London has our hearts

I decided to fly to London, partly because I knew that end of november would bring boredom, partly because I thought I couldn’t make it through my favorite month without seeing my favorite friend.

So. Sunday night is just pure enjoyment, randomness and champagne which we drank on the way to our favorite neighborhood (Brockley). I was introduced to Jonny and his bunny. (I was trying to find a way to formulate this – I just love the rhyme, don’t you?)

Monday was walking around, almost sightseeing, hanging out in a park by myself reading Miss Chopsticks by Xinran, then hiding in a bookstore for more books books books, coffee + boyspotting.

waterloo station!

trees are friends

Monday was also cool because we went to the water rats to see soko, who was wonderful, and then we flew to the barfly just on time to catch verdena before they got on stage. They were amazing, just like the last time I saw them…

Azzls is random

so am I

thank you Helen

Bergen – day 01, day 02

I arrived at the Bergen airport at 7:50am thursday morning – after rushing to the gate, missing my flight by like a second (thanks to the security which was pretty tight for internal flights – I believe norwegian airport security guards have never seen an external hard drive before…) Of course, my backpack was the biggest of all the luggage on the conveyor belt. I could have sworn I saw people laughing when I managed to lift up my 25kgs to put them on my back, while at the same time balancing two camera bags on either side of my hips, a rucksack in the front and a small sport bag (mostly full of books, yay..) wherever was most convenient. When I got out of the airport bus at Fantoft, I thought I was going to die – the stop was by a highway in the middle of nowhere. I followed people who looked like students.
Fantoft is obviously on a hill – who would have thought!
It took a long time to register at the reception. On my way out I met Johannes – the only person I know in Bergen – who helped me to carry my 50kgs of luggage to the 7th floor of an amazingly ugly greyish concrete building, so I could barge in on my flatmate (Ana, from Spain) and her friend Sara. I had breakfast with them and things were a little slow the whole day.. the sun was shining, I hung around outside a bit, read a book, unpacked, settled in.
Day two – my first experience of the city centre… my headphones on my ears, walking around aimlessly until 10am, when the first informal meeting at KHiB took place. What can I say – the building for Fine Arts looks amazing, it has a kitchen and a terrace with view on the sea..

Elverum-Karlstad-Stockholm

Last weekend, Uno, Eirik, Hanne and I went on a random roadtrip to Stockholm to see the Smashing Pumpkins.

We left from Elverum in the afternoon on friday, accompanied by our friend, Santa Claus.

Dwarf

for some reason I only ever have pictures of Eirik driving..

When we got to Karlstad, Uno got really excited. He had to show his excitement by putting a random bag handle around his head. That’s what reaaally cool people do.

Santa checks up on our car once in a while

This one is for Anna…

The next day (Saturday) we went to a recordstore. It was in a basement and had graffiti all over the place on the way downstairs. Continue reading

Fjord trip

this was two or so weeks ago.. before Søvassli..Vilma, Ruta, Philipp, Vilma’s friend (I always forget her name) and I drove to a place close to Orkanger, by the coast.

on our way there, it was raining

quiet after the storm

after two hours of driving, we got there. we threw ourselves outside of the car and I stood and smelled the sea breeze and ran through grass patches towards the shore, a small beach with flat, smooth, small rocks. The sun was so white and blinding, the light so strange and cold.

stockholm and party

so I have bought my bus ticket to Elverum (for a change), heading down there tomorrow morning, with my big backpack and FOOD and a book <3 and then we will drive to Sweden. I can't wait, even though I'll have to study a lot of Norwegian (got the final exam next week, saturday) .. but on sunday we are seeing the Smashing Pumpkins. I'm excited! there's going to be a massive photoblog next week I think ;)

converse are my favorite hiking shoes…

…for urban hiking, that is.
of course, when we were told we would be hiking this weekend, I didn’t take anyone too seriously. “walking in the mountains, huuuhuu, okay, sure”, were my last words before I got onto the bus on friday afternoon, happily throwing my backpack+sleeping bag in the luggage trunk.
We got stuck in a bit of a traffic jam (what the..? traffic in Norway? yes, it does exist, apparently) and arrived at the center/hostel around 5:30PM. we hung around, ran like maniacs to pick out rooms+roomates, played KUBB (if you haven’t played it, you haven’t experienced Norway to the fullest) and had dinner, after which we headed down to the beach (more like, the sandy shore of the lake… but yes, technically it’s a beach).
On our way there we saw a dead squirrel.
It was sad.

:'(

roadkill

writing in sand is my favorite hobby

we were lucky, because it was COLD (some people actually swam in the lake,… we just pulled up our pants and experience the ‘warm’ water only up to our knees) but the sky was almost clear.

believe it or not, it’s 9PM here

Søvassli sunset

we had a big pretty campfire to warm up our toes after playing KUBB again. Wolfgang taught us some drinking songs and we just sort of hung out before heading back up to the hostel.

travelling, settling down

Norwegian buses have my heart.
There’s free coffee, blankets and pillows,… and travelling at night is amazing because you get to actually experience sunsets and sunrises within three hours of each other. I was taking a billion pictures from the bus, through the glass.
I got to Elverum at 4:30 AM, a bit groggy from not having really slept at all, and Uno & Eirik came to pick me up in their pimp car. I was handed a Bjørnebryg and we drove for about an hour, talking about how it felt like time hadn’t passed at all. complete happiness, really. Once I started walking up the stairs to their apartment I immediately felt at home again, scary eh?

In the afternoon Wintermare was playing at Tømmerfløtivalen. I was proudly wearing the “Vegetarians Have More Fun” t-shirt that Hanne got me..I am still staring at it in awe, it’s so cool…!

Today was a lot of random hanging out at Finnskogen.

Uno reminds me of a russian singer in this picture

We watched Someone&someone perform, which was okay but I wasn’t in the mood..Halfway through the show I started talking to Stian’s brother and after he left and the boys joined me, we played around with an air tube, resulting in silly pictures such as:

So yeah, that’s about all that has happened up until now. I keep my camera glued to my hand, so lots of pictures will follow..the landscapes and colors are just as breathtaking as always, makes me forget how much I will start missing people once I get back to Trondheim..

first day.

I spent an almost sleepless night packing my things, trying not to forget anything. It’s awkward to leave somewhere for six months.. my backpack looked gigantic, it’s apparently only 23.5 kg. of course not including my hand luggage (backpack #2 and two camera bags..)

I got to Trondheim airport at 5PM and realised I had only eaten half a roll and drank coffee the whole day. tough luck. After a comfortable bus ride, I got to walk for what seemed like hours (turned out it was only half an hour or so) before I got to the Interrail center. Awesome place to stay, with terribly friendly young norwegians to manage it. I stuck to my luggage like a baby to her mother (you never know what can happen… and frankly getting my stuff stolen on my first day in norway is definitely not part of my plan) and sat down to eat (Caesar Salad! I can only recommend it) with two guys from Germany. One of them was reading High Fidelity (<3) so we talked about that, and then about movies, and music, and norway, and studies, and and and... turns out they are of course great people, real nice. We made a run to the Seven-Eleven across the street (yes, Norway IS an americanised country) to buy candy, milk, water and chocolate. Timo sat down in the hall to eat muesli while Tony and I just played around with our awesome Canon cameras. We played cards with an awkward french kid (I named him Engueran, or however you spell that I don't know... named after some posh kid I met in Ireland ten years ago) then we pretty much just hung out before going to our respective dorms.
After breakfast this morning I met some guy who apparently is doing the same language course as me here… so we went to the Moholt Studentby together to get our keys, do paperwork, and so on.

Tony is in love

..Timo too!

I drew a bunny there... what a surprise!

Trondheim, midnight: the sky was actually wayyy lighter than that..

prison beds!

Trondheim is small and rainy. I’m supposed to get a bus to Elverum sometime today. It’s going to be an experience, considering the next bus leaves at 11pm.. grr. six hours on a bus. SCORE!
