On baking and soulmatism

wednesday afternoon: baking session with friend P. we got all our ingredients and hijacked the academy kitchen to prepare some wonderful cakes. Joan was witness to the birth of some chocolate and rahmkuchen goodness and decided to document it:

just for the sake of it, go here and say hello to Miss J. now.

Yesterday: group meeting got cancelled, instead I talked to my tutor about NEXT SEMESTER (I am still so incredibly hyper about being able to stay…) and then went to this killer presentation – the artist was so good, I think I fell in love with her art. ran around insanely, met Margit and Marit in the rain on my way back home, apparently made someone’s day (<3), danced around with Ana while getting ready for the SHOUT OUT LOUDS show. Her and I fell in love, sad but true.
With Sweden’s most gorgeous, good-looking and sexy man.

more snow, dinners and workshops.

here is a little review of what has happened in the past weeks – starting with the most important news: our mural is growing daily, making Ana and I happier and happier to have breakfast in our amazingly big and light kitchen.

we are hoping to have it finished by the end of the semester…

The other day I also FINALLY managed to talked to my dear C, who is too much of a busy man to pick up his phone. he rambled for five hours about veganism and hardxcore-ism and about how stupid and ignorant and boring the people he meets at the gym are, and then he yelled a thousand times that he doesn’t like snow and really sounded like a stubborn kid. I can’t help thinking he’s probably the only person in the WORLD who doesn’t enjoy snø :( It was an entertaining conversation AND I found out that his sister lived at FANTOFT this summer – isn’t it the coolest thing ever?

Speaking of fantoft, David came over last night, we invited him for dinner. Ana made her amazing tortilla and I just cooked some vegetable rice.

I told him about my obsession with Minnesota and Nebraska, which no one seems to understand – especially not Americans. oh well.. we hung out pretty much the whole evening, talking about accents, minnesota, art, synaesthesia, crazy Pi-obsessed geniuses, and physics. it was nice.

the weather’s going crazy around here. yesterday was the Great Flood, and today there’s a snow storm..

rainbow: day two

the platforms were actually evacuated because of the storm…

we got really, really excited.
When Gabriel and I went for a cigarette on the big roof terrace, we met HÃ¥kon and, after doing a little froggy dance (which, en passant, enabled me to spill coffee all over my freshly-washed grey sweater…), Gabriel built a midget snowman (it looked more like a fat lady with big big boobs.. but nevermind). it was cool.

On my way home from university, the storm was hitting it up, hardcore. It took pictures when I got off the bus, it was totally beautiful and made me very very happy.

I’m really hoping the snow will stay until tomorrow. Then we can go out in the morning and play in it.

last-minute icing

Saturday night we celebrated baby-Etienne’s birthday.
we got him an awesome balloon that Hiroki couldn’t help but start playing with straight away. (I think his biggest dream is to join Cirque du Soleil.)

on the other side, it reads “I [heart] Étienne” but people seemed to enjoy playing with the Porno side more.

After dinner, Étienne got his presents. For the unwrapping ceremony, he was handed the magnificent “polka dot birthday shirt”.

garbagelove

okay so bergen is not quite as cool as trondheim, BUT I did go dumpster-diving with Patrick today (meaning he jumped in there while I took care of his Space Invaders backpack,..) it was fun. It was a container close to the academy, on the harbour (so dirrrty) I screamed out in excitement when I saw a bunch of coke glasses. I got overly excited at the sight of a norwegian keyboard (obviously useless to me, but I took it anyway) . They were throwing out so much stuff, P was even considering getting the vaccuum cleaner too.
afterwards some girl started talking to us, and she asked if there were any food dumpsters around there, so we said no, but asked if she wanted some food (we’d just come back from the master degree students presentations, and they had free food there so we ‘stole’ sandwiches) I had one vegetarian one but obviously it was for me (especially since the fiskekaker episode), so patrick asked her if she was a veg., and she said that she was FREEGAN, god I love that word – so he gave her the extra ham sandwich he had and she was happy.

so far, my garbage excursions have brought me way too much for my own good. I actually OWN things here now, isn’t that weird?

Fiskekaker og Flatbrød

okay so I was convinced by a few people to try Fiskekaker, a norwegian traditional dish. I might as well, since I won’t go near a whale steak and fiskeboller are just too strange.
I stood in front of the fiskekaker selection at the supermarket for ages.

I got home, made two of them (thank god, just two) and I SWEAR it was awful. it tasted like sausage :(
So from now on the only norwegian tradition foods I will eat are vafler and flatbrød. seriously.
